From dream to reality: just one step?

Today, we dive deep into the world of Hinge, an oasis in the desert of dating apps, promising us deeper connections and more meaningful relationships. It's like Tinder, but with a twist! While Tinder can be a never-ending swipe-fest, Hinge takes a different path. It's like Tinder's charming cousin, ready to connect you beyond a quick swipe.

But between the glittering promise of ads and the reality of lived experience, where is the truth?

To help you choose the best dating app for you, I went to meet 3 women and 2 men who agreed to take part in a focus group to solve this mystery: does Hinge really live up to its value proposition? Beyond slogans and marketing campaigns, what is the true face of this dating platform?

Embark on a journey in search of the REAL truth!

The 5 people I interviewed are between 20 and 40 years old and all still use Hinge today. Some have been registered for 6 months, while others are real experts, having been scrolling on the app for 3 years. But here lies the real richness of this focus group! All opinions are welcome, and I've summarized them here for you dear readers.

For those who are a bit lazy and want to know directly the answer to the question "Hinge, yes or no?", it's a big YES for the anti-Tinder people!

Overall, the experience is very similar to what is sold to us in the ads: more authentic profiles, deep conversations that go beyond the physical, and a high-performance algorithm that create consistent matches.

General feeling about hinge

Now, for the more curious and courageous readers, here are a few juicy details to get your teeth into.

First of all, why did they choose Hinge from among the multitude of offers, each more tempting than the last?
Often, it's because their friends who found their soulmate here recommended it to them. It's true that convinced users are the brand's best ambassadors! Or simply by conducting their own "I'm fed up with swiping, what can I do?” on Google.

After downloading the application (rated on Android 3.6/5 and IOS 4.4/5), and having spent many an evening filling in their profile (because, yes, the less motivated will be quickly put off by all the questions they have to answer), they were ready to begin their adventure. And so, after several months or even a year of use, they describe their adventure as refreshing compared to the other app and relationship-focused. Indeed, they all share the idea that "quality of matches feels more aligned with what I'm looking for". They also emphasize that conversations are more authentic and "people are more invested in meaningful conversations here". One participant even describes Hinge as "my go-to app". And what a thing to say!

Why Hinge is so different?

Now what about the profiles?
Because varied, interesting profiles are what people come for! Let's face it, muscular, half-naked guys who don't want serious relationships #nocommitment #notfeelings #imacoolguy are a bit out of fashion.

On Hinge, profiles are described as varied, more detailed and genuine than on other apps of the same kind, quality before quantity and the storytelling aspect sets it apart. All in all, it's better here than elsewhere!

Listening to them, I get the impression that, in the end, attractive marketing isn't so far off the mark?
So we asked them directly, and they confirmed that Hinge's value proposition was indeed respected. People on this platform are indeed open to longer relationships than the one-night stand (although it all starts here, I grant you!). Conversations are more natural, the matches offered also really match your profile and the fact that there's a limited number of likes means you can think twice about your choice before clicking. So all in all, they've done their job - well done!
However, 2 out of 5 participants point out that the marketing is a bit overdone.

There are elements that resonate, but others feel overhyped because there are still some profiles similar to those on Tinder, for example. But like everywhere else, you need to find the rare pearl, and that often requires opening several shells!

For those of you who are more squarely focused and need clear explanations to be convinced, here are the strengths and weaknesses of the HINGE application:

PRO

  • With a wealth of information on user profiles, it's very easy to send or receive a first message that goes beyond the banal "Hi, how are you? 😊".

  • A well-designed, high-performance algorithm.

  • Ability to answer "personal" questions, post photos, videos and even voice messages: makes the app super modern and data-rich for making your choice.

  • Genuine profiles filtered from the outset by all the mandatory information to be provided before you start.

CONS

  • It could enhance user verification for better security.

  • A lack of variety in matches at times.

  • Paid options are expensive and quickly necessary if you get hooked.

  • Interface can be a bit complex at first and you can't see who you've liked.

But then, would he recommend the app to a friend looking for a serious relationship? Everyone agrees: "Absolutely, especially for those tired of casual encounters".
